It has been sometime since I’ve been amazed by electricity, probably one of the reasons why I studied Electrical Engineering. Electricity is everywhere, we ourselves as human beings use electricity in order to control our nervous system. If you think about it, electricity is close to pure energy and energy exists within the smallest particles and also on the biggest complex organisms or systems.
An electric capacitor is known to store electric energy in circuits. But, this concepts exists on other sorts of energy. Humans and other mammals store energy as fat, we store potential energy on lakes and control how we use that energy with dams in order to create electric energy and go around with all of our inventions. So far, this is how we learned to take advantage of potential energy from earth. Water moving because of gravity, water moving because of heat, electromagnetic parts moving electrons because some other natural force moves the electromagnets. But, will this be the only way to create energy? We keep trying to find ways to convert movement into electricity while our planet is already a charged capacitor that continuously discharges electricity towards the ground on a daily basis.
I’ve always admired Nikola Tesla, he had great understanding of energy and how it works. I wish we had that knowledge today, but maybe all it takes is to think outside the box and continue to analyze how it all works, understand why the planets needs those electrical discharges (lightnings) or how those are necessary for a given flow. I believe there must be a way we can directly take advantage of the existing electric energy in our atmosphere and be able to store it on usable batteries. How far from this idea are we? Could we be ready now with the latest super capacitors? Could we just use light rays to steer lightnings and charge our big capacitor blocks to then charge usable batteries? I believe we are close, we just need to keep thinking and take advantage of the latest options out there.
